Minister of Health Downplays Cannabis Legalisation Speculation

Aaron Motsoaledi, South African Minister of Health, responded to a call by Inkatha Freedom Party Member of Parliament Mario Ambrosini to legalise cannabis in South Africa for medicinal use.

Ambrosini made headlines locally and internationally last week when addressing President Jacob Zuma during a packed house of parliament regarding his personal plight with late stage lung cancer; “I was supposed to die many months ago and I am here because I had the courage of taking illegal treatments in Italy in the form of bicarbonate of soda and here in South Africa in the form of cannabis, marijuana or dagga.” “Otherwise, I would be pumped with morphine and I would not be able to speak to you, Mr President.” The Medical Innovation Bill was presented to Parliament and was warmly applauded by the house with Jacob Zuma telling
