The single group in Britain most likely to take drugs? – it’s not who you think

White people are more likely than black people to take drugs. And the average drug user is increasingly older show the latest stats from the Home Office.

The group most likely to take drugs may surprise you.

Estimating drug use in the UK relies on self-reported estimates to the Home Office. And in that context people tend to under-report. But the drug figures in the annual Crime Survey show that stereotypes about who uses drugs need updating.

1. We’re all taking less drugs – but the end of the recession has seen a slight rise

The percentage of all adults taking drugs has been on the decline since a peak of 12.2% in 2003/04.

Only 8.8% of Britons have taken drugs in the last year.
