Many students use cannabis as a recreational drug and social lubricant. It is often more cost efficient too, with alcohol prices at bars and clubs bordering on the extortionate. For many others it is a spiritual and medicinal aid, although still heavily stigmatised in the UK.

Cannabis, as it stands, is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK. It was found that 6.4% of adults aged 16-59 used it between 2012 and 2013, according to a survey from the Home Office on Drug Misuse.
