Longview Republican files marijuana legalization bill

Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, filed a bill Monday to legalize marijuana by removing all mention of the drug from state statutes.

Rather than regulating marijuana, as other states have done, to make it legal for medicinal or recreational use, Simpson said in a release Monday that “God did not make a mistake when he made marijuana that the government needs to fix.”

“Let’s allow the plant to be utilized for good—-helping people with seizures, treating warriors with PTSD, producing fiber and other products—-or simply for beauty and enjoyment,”...
