The Cannabis Licensing Authority was established under the Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act 2015 to regulate the hemp and medicinal ganja industry in Jamaica.

The authority will have to develop procedures and criteria for applying for and retention of licences, permits and other authorisations for cultivation, processing, distribution, sale and other handling of ganja.

Earlier this year, the Jamaican Parliament approved the legislation that decriminalises ganja for medicinal, religious, and private or personal use.
