The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to continue the urgency ordinance on medical marijuana dispensaries until July 27.
Sacramento County Supervisors voted Tuesday to revise its water code to declare marijuana cultivation a form of water waste.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed with the proposal, set forth by Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan, in light of the state's years-long drought.
"According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, a single marijuana plant uses an average of six gallons of water per day during the growing cycle," MacGlashan said after the hearing.
The supervisors cited recent examples of pot busts to show how much water is being used.
Last week, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department removed about 1,000 plants from a grow. It needed about 6,000 gallons of water per day -- that is the equivalent to the daily water consumption of 30 households.
