The world’s largest video gaming organization, E-Sports League (ESL), announced Thursday it would begin testing for performance-enhancing drugs such as Adderall and beta-blockers.

The Electronic Sports League (ESL) has moved faster than expected toward combating the abuse of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) during professional esports tournaments, and the organization has announced that it will begin randomly drug testing players.

Lampkin said the key moment for the ESL was when Kory “Semphis” Friesen, who played Counter Strike, with $250,000 in prizes on the line, claimed during in interview that he and his team had taken Adderall when they played at an event in Poland.

WADA and NADA will help the ESL research and determine an anti-PEDs policy that is “fair, feasible and respects the privacy of the players” while also providing a system of “conclusive” drug test results. The league says its...
