•July 2014: Gov. Andrew Cuomo signs the Compassionate Care Act into law, making New York the 23rd state to legalize medical marijuana.
•December 2014: Draft regulations for medical marijuana released. They essentially control how patients access the drug, as well as how organizations grow and sell the drug.
•April 2015: Final medical marijuana regulations released. make any substantive changes to the draft regulations despite the comments.
•Summer or fall 2015: Health Department officials have said they would award five licenses to organizations to grow and sell medical marijuana. The organizations essentially have six months to start producing the drug, or the license could be revoked based on the regulations.

•Patients will pay $50 to apply for a registry card, which is necessary to buy the drug. State regulators can waive the fee in cases of financial hardship.
