Health Canada Issues First Two Production Licenses For Cannabis Oil

Health Canada officially listed the first 2 licenses to produce cannabis oil under the MMPR today. Ontario’s Peace Naturals and British Columbia’s Whistler Medical Marijuana have both been given permission to produce oils, although it may still be several weeks or months before the companies are prepared and allowed to begin selling the product.

In response to a Supreme Court ruling in June which affirmed patients rights to access and use all forms of marijuana, not just ‘dried’, Health Canada announced on July 8th that they were issuing a section 56 exemption under theControlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), which allows licensed producers to produce and sell “cannabis oil and fresh marijuana buds and leaves in addition to dried marijuana”.  Today’s announcement shows the newest advancement of the issue, with Health Canada issuing the first of what are expected to be many production and eventually sale licenses for cannabis oil and even...
