The first New York City cannabis film festival, celebrating the influence of marijuana on cinema, is to take place on 26 September.
The Brooklyn-based event aims to elevate “cannabis culture by building a bridge between the film-making community and a new class of leaders and entrepreneurs”. Screenings of cannabis-related films will include shorts and a feature-length documentary.
“We want to celebrate the creativity of the cannabis community and invite those outside the community to learn more about this wonderful plant and people who are inspired by it,” Michael Zaytsev, one of the organisers, told the New York Daily News. “We want to challenge the stigma of the lazy stoner.”
Tim Mattson, another organiser, claimed that the goal of the festival is to “educate the attendees” and “inspire them to take action in the movement to end cannabis prohibition”.
