Unlikely allies pushing for legalization of marijuana in Florida

NAPLES, FL -

Despite having been a part of the so-called "War on Drugs" for decades as a federal customs agent, Ray Strack is now pushing for the legalization of marijuana, hoping people vote in favor of a possible medical marijuana measure on the November ballot in Florida.

He’s one of 5,000 retired and current law enforcement officers who are part ofLaw Enforcement Against Prohibition, or LEAP. On Thursday night, LEAP, along with other organizations like United For Care hosted a marijuana forum in Naples hoping get their message out to would-be voters.

A medical marijuana measure failed in Florida in 2014 because it didn’t have the 60 percent supermajority; only 58 percent of voters supported it. That’s why Strack said he thinks it would pass in November.
