Amazon Developing Marijuana Dramedy Starring Margaret Cho

Amazon is developing a marijuana-themed family dramedy, starring Margaret ChoVariety has learned.

Titled “Highland,” the hourlong project in contention at Amazon Prime follows Margaret Cho, who after court-ordered rehab gets a chance to start over, but has to move in with her dysfunctional family who now runs a pot dispensary.

Co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Amazon Studios, “Highland” hails from writer Liz Sarnoff (“Deadwood,” “Lost,” “Alcatraz”).

Cho is attached to star and exec produce, along with Becky Clements and Marty Adelstein of Tomorrow Studios.

The development project is the latest for Amazon’s slate of original content. Last week, the streaming service was nominated for a slew of Golden Globes and SAG Awards, especially for “Transparent.”

A standup comedian, Cho recently guest starred on ABC’s Ken Jeong comedy “Dr. Ken.” She had a longtime role on “Drop Dead Diva,” and also recently appeared on E!’s...
