Medical marijuana drawing ex-law enforcement, but is there enough demand?

Illinois’ medical marijuana industry has grown far more slowly than prominent boosters had hoped, but there are still plenty of people trying to profit off the new business, in particular, former law-enforcement officials.

The Associated Press reported that it had identified at least 17 such people in the state working in a variety of positions, some overseeing legal compliance. But there are also people more directly involved with the business, including retired Will County Circuit Judge Robert Livas, who co-founded a company that aims to operate two medical marijuana dispensaries in the Chicago area, the report said.
