A second man has been sent to prison after killing his co-conspirator in a marijuana operation for spending the drug home’s rent money on a Mexican vacation.
Stanley Vincent James Shawyer, 38, was sentenced to nine years for manslaughter after the May 2012 killing of Phillip Jochen Woehrle. In December, 38-year-old Thaven Philipp Gardiner received the same sentence for the same crime.
Woehrle, 28, was killed by a single gunshot. His body was later discovered in the burning drug home at 129th Street and 117th Avenue.
“Mr. Woehrle died in a cruel and frightening way,” said Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Adam Germain. “He was shot in the back with a .40-calibre handgun. He is more than just a name on the indictment.”
Shawyer and Gardiner trusted Woehrle to act as caretaker for the marijuana plants in the rented home. He tended the plants and was given money to pay rent.
