Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu’s journey to NFL stardom was almost washed away by drug usage. He failed multiple drug tests while at LSU, and was kicked off the football team in August of 2012 despite being a Heisman Trophy finalist the year prior.
He declared for the 2013 NFL Draft and was selected in the third round by the Arizona Cardinals. As he evolved from safety to inside corner during his time in the desert, Mathieu’s talent has shone through. He earned himself a trip to the Pro Bowl and was named a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press in 2015. He tore his ACL against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15 and missed the remainder of the season.
A fan on Twitter asked Mathieu about how he found the discipline to stop smoking.
@Mathieu_Era how did you gain the discipline to stop smoking? honest question.
