Meet The Organization Dedicated to Preventing Marijuana Legalization in 2016

According to Ben Cort, board member of SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana) drug policy is a multi-faceted nuanced conversation. Cort told Huffington Post the organization doesn't want to "oversimplify a complicated discussion" about legalization.

Maia Szalavitz introduced us to SAM back in 2013 when the organization rebranded itself and brought on Patrick Kennedy, former Democratic representative from Rhode Island to help fight marijuana legalization. Board members also include former Bush and Obama drug policy advisor Kevin Sabet (SAM's president), conservative columnists David Frum and Harvard Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Sharon Levy, MD.

SAM's website does not list financial backers but on the surface it appears SAM could have roots with the pharmaceutical industry and Christian based organizations. The tone of SAM messages suggests they have enough resources to draw their fight out for a long, long time.
