California’s first Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation chief says she has no personal experience with cannabis.
In February, California Gov. Jerry Brown named the former chief deputy director of the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Lori Ajax, as the state’s first medical marijuana czar.
In a recent interview with Patrick McGreevy of the Los Angeles Times, Ajax revealed that she actually has no personal experience with cannabis.
“Unlike regulating alcohol, I’m not a user of marijuana so I am not familiar with how that affects people or what it does,” Ajax said. “But from the outreach I’ve done since I got here, it appears there is a medical need and I’m tasked with doing this and I’m going to do it.”
McGreevy then asked if she knew any friends or relatives who’d ever used or needed medical marijuana. Ajax said she did not.
