On April 20, 2017, Netflix released a teaser video announcing the Aug. 25 premiere of “Disjointed,” a half-hour comedy about a family-owned cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles.

Chuck Lorre, the producer behind hit shows like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mike and Molly,” started shopping around his cannabis comedy in early 2016; then, on July 14, 2016, Netflix announced that it had picked up the show and ordered an initial run of 20 episodes.

David Javerbaum, former head writer of “The Daily Show,” teamed up with Lorre to executive produce and write the show, which stars Kathy Bates as the owner of Ruth’s Alternative Caring.

According to Netflix’s announcement, “Joining [Ruth] are three budtenders, her twenty-something son and a deeply troubled security guard. All of them are more or less constantly high.”
