The North American Marijuana Index, comprised of the leading cannabis stocks in the U.S. and Canada, was on the rise.

The index was up nearly 2% this afternoon to 248.49.

Florida-based company mCig Inc (OTCMKTS:MCIG) was a big mover on the index after announcing that it received three licenses to cultivate, distribute, and manufacture recreational cannabis in the state of California. Shares jumped 5.4% to US$0.22.

Namaste Technologies (OTCMKTS:NXTTF) saw shares rise nearly 4.3% to C$1.25 after reporting its earnings for the fiscal second quarter. The Vancouver-based medicinal cannabis company saw quarterly sales nearly quadruple to US$5.6mln.

In the cryptocurrency market, the top 5 currencies are all on a downward slide.

Business mogul Warren Buffett said in an interview with Yahoo Finance on Monday that bitcoin was more of a gamble than an investment and that it depends too heavily on trading.

“There’s nothing wrong with it. If you wanna gamble somebody else will come along and pay more money tomorrow, that’s one kind of game. That is not investing,” said the Berkshire Hathaway CEO.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was recently down less than a percent to US$9,350.71.

Etherium (ETH-USD) was also down slightly to US$684.02.

Ripple (XRP-USD) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH-USD) both fell more than 2%.

EOS (EOS-USD) was the top decliner of the five, falling over 14% to $US18.32.

Several companies with a focus on cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies felt the aftermath of Buffett's comments.

Shares of Block One Cap Inc (OTCQB:BKPPF) sank nearly 12.6% to US$0.55 alongside the main cryptocurrencies. The Vancouver-based company invests in the development of public and private blockchain technologies.

HIVE Blockchain Technologies Ltd (OTCMKTS: HVBTF) saw its share fall nearly 9% to US$1.13. The Vancouver-based company partners with Genesis Mining to bring blockchain and cryptocurrencies to traditional markets. The company recently expanded its mining complex in Sweden, increasing its power capacity by 65% to 17.4 megawatts.
