It was recently announced that Dad & Dudes one of the pioneering companies manufacturing craft beer infused with CBD was acquired by the company specializing in cannabis brands Cannabiniers which is based in San Diego. Dad & Dudes was founded by Mason Hembree with his father Thomas in 2010.
Initially, the company was not dealing with any CBD products. It was mainly focusing on eight-inch pizzas and craft beer. The first CBD infused beer from the company had a rather unusual name, the Secret Stash of George Washington and was launched in the year 2015 at the Great American Beer Festival at Denver.
The response to this CBD infused beer at the beer festival was extremely encouraging, with the lines of people queuing up for the beer, being longer than most other beers at the festival Hence, Hembree decided to get formal approval for the beer, from the regulatory body, for Alcohol and tobacco.
The time taken for testing the CBD beer was one year, and they got federal approval in 2016. However, due to the change in FDA rules regarding cannabis products, Hembree was unable to sell the beer for a period of one year.
It also refused to reveal its formula to the regulatory body. After more changes in the rules, Dad & Dudes was able to restart selling the Secret Stash beer again in 2018.
Carabiniers is selling a range of CBD creams under the brand name Bask, and also selling four different cannabis beverages including coffee pods, cold brewed and conventional coffees, teas and a cannabis-infused beer which is not alcoholic.
Hembree has become well known for advocating legalization of CBD craft beer and he believes that this may have attracted the attention of Carabiniers.
The industry publication Brew Bound has indicated that Cannabiniers is planning to acquire multiple breweries for a total capacity of 500,000 barrels. Other than Dad & Dudes, it has also finalized deals with craft breweries on the East Coast, Midwest and in California.
Hembree has confirmed that his deal with Cannabiniers is almost final, and there are not likely to be any more major changes. Dad & Dudes do not expect any major changes for a period of six to twelve months since the business will be under observation. Brewbound has noted that Cannabiniers are likely to introduce three different types of beers. In addition to the conventional alcoholic beer, variants which are infused with CBD and THC are also likely to be introduced in the future.
