Pharmacy franchise system Shoppers Drug Mart has joined forces with Harvest One to provide Canadians with medical cannabis.

Under the terms of the agreement, Satipharm-branded products will be available for purchase through the franchisor’s website, as Canadian regulations restrict the sale of medical cannabis in retail pharmacies. The products will be packaged with colour-coded labels, indicating varying levels of strength.

Soon after announcing the partnership, Harvest One completed its first shipment to the pharmacy through its wholly-owned subsidiary United Greeneries.

“We have an incredibly dedicated and driven team at Harvest One who are all focused on execution of the strategy of being a leading health, wellness, and self-care company in the cannabis sector,” said CEO Grant Froese. “Just days after announcing our supply agreement with Shoppers Drug Mart, we are proud to see that our product is already available for medical consumers.”

Shoppers Drug Mart made several announcements related to its medical cannabis plan in recent months. In January, the company launched its Ontario e-commerce platform for the product, while in March it introduced its Medical Cannabis Coaching Program in partnership with Great-West Life.

There are nearly 1300 Shoppers Drug Mart locations across Canada (operating under Pharmaprix in Québec), as well as 47 medical clinic pharmacies under the name Shoppers Simply Pharmacy (Pharmaprix Simplement Santé in Québec).
