Can you believe that it's almost been a year since marijuana was legalized here in Canada? I find it almost comical how many weed stores have popped up in such a short time - you see them almost as frequently as Starbucks now. Plenty of people just like you and me are no stranger to smoking pot, but some of your favourite celebrities like to indulge from time to time too! Here are seven Canadian celebrities who smoke weed.
There are definitely some pretty obvious stoners that made the list, but you may just be surprised to see who else is on here! Check it out for yourself, and hear some hilarious stories about your favourite Canadians.
Jim Carrey
While making a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Carrey got candid about his pot smoking history, which dates way back to the 1970s. He recalled "passing a joint" with comedian Richard Pryor back in the day, when Pryor warned him to be careful with his weed consumption.
Ryan Reynolds
Reynolds already has Aviation Gin under his belt, so one has to wonder if the Canadian actor will ever dive into the cannabis business as well. Although he hasn't confirmed anything yet, he is working on a film called Stoned Alone about a man who gets too high, misses his flight, and has to fight off home invaders while, you guessed it, stoned.
The Weeknd
If you've ever listened to The Weeknd's music, you're probably not surprised to find him on this list. Plenty of his songs refer to cannabis use including Rolling Stone, and House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls.
Justin Bieber
Because he's been in the spotlight from a very young age, Bieber obviously has a reputation to protect. The singer has admitted to smoking weed privately so as not to attract negative media attention and hate from his younger fans. "You'll never see me smoking because that is not who I am. If it's something I do, then it's something I do, but it's not who I am and what I want to put on blast for the world to see. Like, who's Snoop Dogg? That's the dude who smokes a lot of weed. That's become his identity almost. And I don't want my identity to be anything but who I am and what my music is portraying me to be," he revealed in an interview.
Drake
On his track with rapper Meek Mill, Going Bad, Drake said it himself, "back home smoking legal". The rapper has said before that the tries not to drink or smoke recklessly, although he did tell Jimmy Fallon that he actually hit the bong before his Degrassi audition way back in the day, which sounds kind of reckless if you ask me.Â
Alanis Morisette
Ottawa-born singer Alanis Morissette has always been pretty open about how smoking weed helps her creative process. "I've often felt telepathic and receptive to inexplicable messages my whole life. I can stave those off when I'm not high. When I'm high... well, they come in and there's less of a veil, so to speak. So if ever I need some clarity... or a quantum leap in terms of writing something, it's a quick way for me to get to it," she told High Times in a 2009 interview.
Seth Rogen
I'm almost certain that seeing Seth Rogen on this list, especially considering the Canadian actor has a cannabis lineof his own on the way, is not surprising. He often makes paraphernalia of his own, which he has been known to post on his Instagram page!
