With Canada getting a head start on most the world when it comes legalization, canna-tourism is about to take off.

In an attempt to help companies up their game, Blue Mountain Village Conference Centre will play host to the first annual New Heights Cannabis Tourism Summit next month.

“Canada has caught the world’s attention with the legalization of recreational cannabis and canna-tourism is the next big thing,” said Jennifer Mason, founder of the event. “Now that edibles will be launching on October 17th, it presents an even bigger opportunity for many tourism cannabis experiences.”

Ontario is particularly ripe for the new industry with its relatively relaxed regulations and an abundance of cannabis consumers interested in new adventures, Mason said.

“Canada has caught the world’s attention with the legalization of recreational cannabis and canna-tourism is the next big thing.”

“There’s already a big demand by consumers for cannabis experiences such as cannabis-friendly accommodations, activities (golf, yoga, art classes, etc.), events and tours. Building a new cannabis product will present new revenue-generating opportunities for cannabis and tourism companies.”

The day-long event, which will be held on Oct. 28, will focus on everything from how to go about creating a canna-tourism product to navigating provincial regulations governing the industry. There will also be presentations on brand and product development to help young companies learn how to stand out.

Colorado received 82 million visitors in 2016after it had legalized cannabis, with over four million coming just for the drug.
