A B.C. man’s relaxing Saturday night plans were erased when he discovered the prerolled joint he was trying to light up contained a large piece of a pencil and no actual cannabis.
“I finally got the joint lit after several tries and when I went to have a puff something was clearly not right,” Chris Graham, who picked up the product at Hobo Cannabis in Kelowna for just under $7, told Kelowna Now.

The store was quick to provide Graham with a replacement and its parent company, Donnelly Group, said the problem originated from someone else in the supply chain.
“Federal and Provincial regulations specifically prohibit retailers from quality assuring products, and state that everything must remain sealed in its original packaging,” the statement said. “Hobo has issued an exchange to the customer, and has initiated communications to the [British Columbia Review Board] and [licensed producer] to get this matter sorted out.”
The B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch said this is the first time anything like this has been reported.
“We received the complaint and immediately got in contact with the licensed producer, LP’s are responsible for quality assurance,” said Kate Bilney, senior communications officer with B.C. LDB.
“They assured us that they believe it’s an isolated instance and they are undertaking a full investigation to determine how it occurred.”
