Shoppers waiting to order cannabis Christmas gifts are getting a rude awakening as one of the biggest holidays nears.
Most legal shops won’t be able to order the new wave of marijuana products before Dec. 16, which means products likely won’t hit store shelves until 2020.
Brad Churchill, owner of Choklat, a candy-making company, told the Calgary Herald provinces will continue to suffer from Health Canada’s cautious approach.
“It’s disappointing in the standpoint of not having it in the stores for the holiday season,” he said.
“(Federal approvals are) taking longer than it really should but, at the end of the day, the wheels of progress are grinding.”
Last week, Canopy Growth also revealed their products likely won’t be in stores until the new year.
Some 48 processors have Health Canada licences to enter the market.
