Professional wrestler and vocal weed lover Rob Van Dam responded to a fan’s tweet with some very exciting news for fans of the fighter and his substance of choice.
“@TherealRVD needs to drop his own strain,” a Van Dam fan tweeted at the wrestler. “4.20 Denver. It’s happening,” Van Dam replied.
Although he has yet to disclose any further details about the endeavour, fans were highly receptive of the news.
“Can you please call it Rolling Thunder?” one user pleaded. “You know it’s gonna be rated 5 star,” commented another.
Meanwhile, across the pond, the wrestling scene in the Emerald Isle isn’t nearly as green as its moniker might suggest.
Irish wrestler Peter Newti, 21, has been banned from the ring for three months after testing positive for cannabis.
Newti, who won the Irish Amateur Wrestling Association Irish Open senior men’s 97 kg category late last year, has been slapped with the suspension after a sample he provided after the competition tested positive for THC, the intoxicating compound in the cannabis plant.
Although the wrestler copped to consuming the drug, he maintained the substance, although prohibited, in no way affected or enhanced his performance in the ring.
Sport Island declared that it believed the fighter had “demonstrated that the context of the use was unrelated to sport performance,” but still felt that the infraction warranted a penalty.
The organization acknowledged that Newti’s cannabis use fell under the umbrella of the “No Significant Fault or Negligence” sanction category, which results in consequences ranging from a zero to 24-month suspension. However, since Newti promptly admitted to the violation, he was given the three-month ban, which is largely considered to be a slap on the wrist.
More seriously, though, Newti has been stripped of his gold medal from the Irish Open.
