The One Plant marijuana dispensary in Barrie, Ont. shut its doors temporarily on Friday after it was reported one of its employees had been in close contact with someone who had tested positive for the coronavirus.

“This decision was taken by One Plant leadership as a precautionary measure due to the rapidly evolving novel coronavirus (COVID-19),” said manager Ryan Grenville, according to CTV News.

However, the store soon provided an update, including plans to get back on the front lines of providing cannabis to its customers. “We have now learned that the initial information we received was false in that the subject had not actually been tested, but was instructed by a physician upon check-up that they ought to self-isolate at their residence, and further, that this subject does not require hospitalization,” Grenville said.

Management decided to use the opportunity to give the store a thorough cleaning before reopening its doors.

The store has taken other measures to increase the safety of its customers, including only allowing a limited number of people inside at any one time, disabling use of touchscreens and providing ample hand sanitizers. It also used the moment to praise other essential service providers who are working tirelessly to keep communities like Barrie safe.

“The entire One Plant family is indebted to the heroic doctors, nurses, first-responders, researchers and public servants who continue to give it their all to help the world in this uncertain time, and, in turn, One Plant will continue to do its part to ensure that the health and safety of all of our staff and guests are treated with the utmost importance,” Grenville said.
