If you’ve ever pined for a slushie after a cannabis session or wished you could grab some snacks alongside your weed, Fire & Flower and Circle K have some good news for you.
The convenience store chain, owned by Quebec-based company Alimentation Couche-Tard, is partnering with the cannabis retailer to open adjacent locations across Alberta. The first co-location is opening this week in Grand Prairie, with a second location set to open next week in Calgary.
Fire & Flower is expecting to benefit from the volume of traffic to Circle K locations while offering consumers online ordering through its Spark Perks program.
“As we continue to build our relationship with Alimentation Couche-Tard, Fire & Flower is very pleased to be embarking on this initiative together,” said Trevor Fencott, Chief Executive Officer of Fire & Flower, in a press release.
“We believe that combining convenient pickup locations with digital engagement offered by the Hifyre platform and Spark Perks program presents our customers with a differentiated value proposition in an increasingly competitive cannabis retail market. This approach to innovation in omni-channel and convenience-oriented cannabis retail differentiates Fire & Flower and positions us well to capitalize on both domestic and international opportunities.”
Fire & Flower is now operating across four provinces (Alberta., Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario) and one territory (Yukon). Fencott said the retailer is setting its sights on global expansion as new cannabis markets emerge.
Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., operates 15,000 stores across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Japan, China, and Indonesia.
Last summer, Alimentation Couche-Tard agreed to invest just under $26-million in the Edmonton-based Fire & Flower Holdings Corp., obtaining a 9.9 per cent stake in the company, with the option of raising its stake to 50.1 per cent with additional investment.
“This strategic investment by Couche-Tard, one of the world’s largest retailers, is transformative for Fire & Flower,” Fencott said when that deal was announced. “The support of Couche-Tard’s world-class leadership team, coupled with their capital strength and impressive international footprint, provides us with outstanding opportunities for aggressive growth.”
