Canadians 'overwhemingly' believe locally grown cannabis is the best. But B.C.'s reputation is intact

British Columbia is still perceived as the top spot for quality pot, according to new survey results collected by Maru/Blue and commissioned by Auxly Cannabis Group — but local love for homegrown weed is emerging among consumers, too.

The survey results were released to celebrate the launch of Robinsons Cannabis (an eponymous label by Kentville, Nova Scotia-based master grower Andrew Robinson), which is now available at the NSLC and Ontario cannabis stores. The survey was completed on June 16 and asked just over 1,500 “randomly selected Canadians” about their geographical preferences for the origins of their cannabis.

Forty-four per cent of survey respondents said that B.C. Bud is tops, followed by 22 per cent claiming Ontario growers produce the best ganja, and 19 per cent claiming that the best available chronic is Québecois.

The survey also revealed a streak of pot-related provincial patriotism. Respondents “overwhelmingly” say that their home region produces the “best-quality” cannabis.

Ninety-seven per cent of B.C. residents claim that their bud is the best, followed by 76 per cent of Québecois(es), 54 per cent of Ontarians, and 50 per cent of Albertans.

Regions with slightly less faith in their own homegrown include 48 per cent of Atlantic Canadians (who were placed into one category), 37 per cent of Manitobans, and a measly 33 per cent of Saskatchewan residents.

Results for Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories were not made available, if any.

While the once-impeccable reputation of once-legendary B.C.-grown cannabis has taken a hit in recent years, the survey suggests that it may be on the rebound – or at least that residents of the West Coast province still think it’s the best coast for bud production.

Regardless of the survey results, the pride for local pot from various provinces across the country is heartening for the legal weed industry, although only time will tell if that translates into sales.

Besides, we all know that the best weed comes from Quebec.
