“A male exited one of the camping trailers, identified himself and advised he had been living on the property for several years.”

The Central Hastings detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a man whom they say grew marijuana on municipal land while squatting there.

Police patrol, street crime and emergency response units entered the property on Camp Road in Tweed at 9:45 a.m. last Thursday. They reported finding several cabins, trailers and debris.

“A male exited one of the camping trailers, identified himself and advised he had been living on the property for several years,” Const. Barbra Hunter of the OPP wrote in a news release.

Police charged a 61-year-old Tweed man with cultivating cannabis in a place that wasn’t his home, cultivating more than four cannabis plants and engaging in prohibited activity on premises.

His name was not released. He’s to appear Oct. 4 in Belleville court.
