Tremblant Cannabis, a subdivision of Laurentian Organic, announced its entry into the Ontario concentrates market this month. Their premium craft hash products will hit the shelves in retail locations across Ontario in partnership with The Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation, which operates stores as Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS).

Laurentian Organic Inc. is one of the first licensed cannabis producers in Quebec, with a leadership team boasting more than 50 combined years of cannabis industry experience. The company produces various cannabis flower and hash products.

Interview with Eric Brosseau, Co-Founder and CEO of Tremblant Cannabis

Hashish, or hash, is a concentrated form of cannabis made by collecting, compressing, and processing cannabis trichomes—the fine, hair-like outgrowths that produce a sticky resin. Trichomes are the parts of a cannabis plant containing cannabinoids and terpenes; therefore, hash is often the most potent product that can be created from a cannabis plant.
Hash processing creates small blocks of reddish-brown-to-black resinous material. Consumers enjoy hash with a vaporizer or smoke it in pipes, bongs, or joints.

According to Eric Brosseau, CEO of Tremblant Cannabis, hash is a cannabis product category with potential for major growth. Hash smoking is an old-school manner of THC enjoyment, finding its footing in the modern world of high-tech cannabis production methods.

“Annual hash sales allude to an underrepresented product format in the concentrations category in Ontario,” Brosseau notes. “As a result, there is a great opportunity for both OCS and retailers to participate in the category growth driven by client adoption & product loyalty. We are achieving this by working with some of the most talented producers in the industry and consistently delivering an unparalleled experience to our consumers.”

Tremblant Cannabis leans into hash’s rich history to appeal to consumers. They use a traditional middle eastern style to craft their hashish that involves hand-pressing it and combining it with oil extracted from cannabis flowers. Tremblant Cannabis sticks with largely by-hand techniques in its modern production facilities, including hand-trimming of all cannabis plants.

Of course, technology is integral to today’s legal cannabis industry. The long path to the market involves optimized growing conditions, genetic testing, and ever-evolving production techniques.

While the black market has continued to persist throughout Canada, an increase in brick-and-mortar locations is gradually moving the legal market share forward. As of September 2020, OCS estimates that the legal market accounted for over 25 percent of all Ontario cannabis sales, up from 14 percent in October 2019.
