Week in Weed: Herbs that won’t get you high, OCS unveils 240+ new pot products and Amazon supports legalization of weed in the U.S.

Getting uncomfortably high was a problem Lauren Tansley struggled with due to her low tolerance for THC. So she started adding herbs to her cannabis to dilute the potency.

Tansley says adding herbs, such as lemon balm, peppermint, and lavender, to cannabis is like mixing “soda with your whiskey.” They can boost flavour profiles, stretch out the stash, and water down the potency to a preferred level.

And that’s how the cannabis brand, Ouid came to be. The company sells herbal blends and cannabis accessories available on the Ontario Cannabis Store and boasts of a creative team led by the former head of product development for David’s Tea. The GrowthOp’s Sam Riches on all you need to know.

This may just be the most expensive variety of weed

What can you buy for US$1,400 ($1,770)?

In Canada, as per properties listed on Rentals.ca for the month of December, that’s pretty close to the average rent . It’s also more than half the value of stimulus checks Canadians affected by Covid-19 received.

In the U.S., $1,400 is specifically the price tag for the most expensive weed… per ounce.

In an article published in Goldleaf on Jan. 9, Alfonso Colasuonno chronicles five of the most expensive weed varieties in the U.S. Cannabis Caviar at $1,400 per ounce tops the list. Cannabis Caviar contains 32 per cent THC and is said to produce effects such as euphoria, relaxation, and appetite stimulation.

“We’re not saying break the bank if you have the chance to pick up some Cannabis Caviar,” writes Colasuonno for the Ohio-based cannabis platform.

“But, at the very least, this may provide the impetus to finally get your friends to pay back that money they owe!”

Based on the price range, Loud Dream, Isla OG Canned Cannabis, and Oracle are not so close behind at $800 per ounce.

OCS’s new product line has ‘something for everyone’

Ontario Cannabis Store announced it would be unveiling over 240 products that are set to hit shelves at select pot shops in Ont. and the provincial retail site, OCS.ca, in the near future.

Whether it’s planting, smoking, drinking, or eating, there’s something for everyone. TGO’s Angela Stelmakovich on five products that stood out based on innovation, variety, and appeal.

Buzz of the Week

Shelter Market, operated by Agro-Greens Natural Products Ltd., announced that the company is closing its medical site. Patients registered with the company can have their medical documents transferred to Medicibis, a Montreal-based licensed producer.

“It breaks my heart that we are no longer able to support medical clients through Shelter Market, but I am grateful to Mendo (Medicibis’ online platform),” Jeremy Vokins, managing director of Agro-Greens said in a press release.

“I am confident that their diverse product offering, and excellent customer service will ensure these individuals continue to have access to top-quality medicine.”

Nick Laba for Mugglehead Magazine reports that since the company launched “in March 2020, B.C.-based Shelter developed a reputation with a curated list of quality products and compassionate pricing, while offering detailed consumer information like terpene content.”

Amazon backs bill legalizing cannabis in the U.S.

Amazon’s commitment to reforming the nation’s cannabis policy came in the form of an endorsement for Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace. The tech giant lent support to a Republican-backed bill in Congress that would legalize cannabis on a federal level.

Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-SC) States Reform Act “would introduce a three per cent federal tax on cannabis,” TGO reported on Jan. 26.

Does that mean Amazon will now start selling and delivering cannabis in the near future?
