Two officers, who had never consumed cannabis, ate an entire bar after stealing three edibles during a 2018 Toronto dispensary raid. After feeling the effects, one of the officers called 911.

What started as a raid on a Toronto cannabis dispensary has led to one officer resigning from the Toronto Police Service and a second admitting to eating cannabis edibles while on duty.

The edible in question was an infused-chocolate bar, one of three that were stolen during a 2018 raid. On Monday, a Toronto police officer pleaded guilty to a charge of discreditable conduct at a police hearing, CBC reports.

The senior officer then took his partner’s radio, ran up the street and called for an ambulance. One of the officers who responded to that emergency call slipped on ice upon arrival and suffered a concussion.

The second officer, who read out an apology during the tribunal earlier this week, is still awaiting a decision. During the tribunal, the officer admitted to making a “huge mistake.”

“In doing so, I caused great embarrassment and injury to the reputation of the service and my fellow officers, and for that, I am deeply sorry” the officer reportedly said, per CBC.

The officer’s lawyer is asking for an 18-month demotion to fourth-class constable followed by a 12-month demotion to third-class constable.

During the first officer’s hearing in 2018, the presiding judge deemed the officer a “complete idiot,” per Global News. 

“From the point of view of public interest, the impact is profound,” the judge said.

“The conduct here you cannot describe as anything other than stupid.”
