The change will reduce some of the regulatory burdens for new and existing licence holders
As of April 19, cannabis processing licence holders in Canada will no longer need to submit a sales amendment application to sell their product.
On Thursday, Health Canada sent out an email to licensed processors across the country introducing the changes, which would automatically give a sales licence to all micro and standard processing licence holders and applicants.
Licence holders that aren’t currently authorized to sell dried flower will receive reissued licences with the amendments within the next 90 days.
Once licences are reissued with the amendment, or 60 days after submitting a notification of new cannabis product (NNCP) for any product, licensees can begin selling.
Licence holders that have already submitted a sales amendment application will be contacted on a case-by-case basis by the agency to clarify next steps.
Those who just submitted their application for a processing licence — either micro or standard — will be authorized to sell to provincial retail distributors during the initial licensing process.
The agency says the decision is based on the lower risk associated with producing dried and fresh cannabis products.
“The change will reduce regulatory burden on licence holders and give new licence holders the ability to bring products to market more quickly. Health Canada will continue to provide oversight using a risk-based approach,” reads the notice.
