New cannabis brand seeks content creators
Successful applicants will receive free cannabis products.
If you’re a cannabis consumer in the U.S. on the hunt for a job, Washington-based Sesh, a cannabis accessory brand, is looking to hire writers, photographers, videographers, streamers and social media influencers. The successful applicants will receive free cannabis products, be flown out to the company’s Seattle-based office and have the opportunity to represent the brand at trade shows. Sesh reports its goal is “to bring people together to have fun, relax and enjoy a good smoke sesh.” The company sells a line of pre-rolled cones, hemp-wrap blunt cones and botanical blunt cones made from goji berry, cocoa, sage and hibiscus. For those interested in working in the sector in a role other than content creation, cultivation might be a better fit. Last year, a report from CannabizTeam, a cannabis-focused executive search and staffing firm, identified cultivation as the area with the most opportunity.
According to that report, entry-level roles like trimmers have seen “upward compensation growth” while executive roles such as vice president of cultivation and director of cultivation saw double-digit salary growth from 2020 to 2021.
“Jobs in the cultivation sector include some of the highest-paying positions in the industry, yet we also see vast opportunities for entry-level candidates,” said Liesl Bernard, CEO of CannabizTeam.
A number of Canadian colleges and universities now offer cannabis cultivation programs.
In 2017, Collège Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) became the first school in Canada to offer cannabis production classes. Similar programs, which focus on things like pest and disease control, developing irrigation systems, harvesting flowers and plant care, among other skills, are now available at educational institutions across Canada.
Rob Baldwin, vice president of cultivation and greenhouse operations at B.C.-based Pure Sunfarms, recently spoke with The GrowthOp about the best practices for backyard and balcony gardeners. Baldwin entered the industry with an agricultural background and earned a greenhouse management diploma from B.C.’s Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
