The budding Marijuana industry has attracted a legion of “ganjapreneurs” seeking the chance to cash in on the US movement to legalize and legitimize Cannabis. ArcView Group, a “hub for investment, data and progress” estimates the industry will drive around $7 billion in revenue during 2016. This number is predicted to jump to over $22 billion by 2020. As more and more states join the movement to legalize, control and tax, a new generation of startups are seeing an opportunity to be part of the first wave to establish profitable marijuana based services.

Get in on the cannabis industry while the getting’s good.

It’s no secret that America’s cannabis industry is booming.

Four states and the District of Columbia have already legalized marijuana for recreational use, 25 states have legalized the drug for medical purposes and numerous states are pushing to do the same in 2016.

Anti-marijuana groups criticize the impact of pot legalization in the state

As Colorado deals with the fallout of an expanding — but controversial — marijuana industry, those who supported the drug’s legalization are acknowledging it will take time to overcome early challenges.

“It will take time to change some people’s opinions that pot is bad,” said Pueblo County commissioner Sal Pace in a recent interview withFortune. The city of Pueblo is the top cultivation spot for marijuana in the state — something Pace notes with pride — but some opponents have started to argue the industry is taking a negative toll on the area.

Members of Colombia’s FARC guerilla group, set to reintegrate into society once a peace deal is finalized, could find jobs in legal marijuana production under a new government plan to boost the rural economy by tapping into the medicinal cannabis market, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

Jobs are reportedly booming in Canada’s marijuana economy — both the legal one and the not-so-legal one.

There are dozens of ads, mostly in Toronto and Vancouver, for marijuana trimmers at legally sanctioned medical pot growers, or for "budtenders" who serve customers at the not-entirely-legal marijuana dispensaries that have popped up around those cities.

If you’ve ever dreamt of saying the words, ‘I just applied for Willie Nelson’s weed company,’ your dreams are about to become a reality. Willie Nelson is hiring new employees for Willie’s Reserve, his “premium cannabis lifestyle brand” that features his own special, hand-picked brand of pot. The official website says the purpose of the company is paying “tribute to a tradition of sharing, caring and toking.”

The company isn’t just a start-up — it’s a growing empire. Willie’s Reserve is even scoring big investments from major companies, like New York-based private equity firm, Tuatara Capital. 

Pot is a big business and only destined to get bigger. Legal sales last year reached $5.7 billion, up more than a billion dollars over the previous year. Sales this year are expected to top $7.1 billion.

This fall, we're likely to see marijuana legalization initiatives win in a handful of states—Arizona, California, Nevada, Maine, Massachusetts—which would more than triple the size of the legal marijuana market in the county. The combined population of the legal states so far is about 16 million; the population of California alone is more than 38 million. If all five initiative states vote for marijuana this year, the size of the legal market would grow to more than 55 million.

Marijuana Central has seen incredible growth in the past six months and now receives over 300,000 unique visitors per month. Company founder Korban Stone says, “We have not done any marketing yet, but we continue to see the number of visitors rise.” He plans to begin advertising and marketing the site and last month the website began to monetize by accepting listings from marijuana related companies. “We’ll be investing our revenues into driving more traffic to the site. I don’t see this growth trend ending any time soon as this is just the beginning of this industry and we’re positioned to grow with it.”

Some have messy buns and sleeve tattoos. Some have salon cuts and $2,000 suits.

Some are joining blue-collar unions, getting health benefits as they grow and sell a plant they’ve long loved. Some say they never touch it, but they’re standing guard outside shops and fiercely lobbying legislators in Sacramento to ensure that others can.

Occasionally you hear that “medical cannabis is legal in the UK” when at international cannabis conferences. This is almost an “in black and white” or “down on paper” kind of “medical cannabis” whereby technically there is because there is a pharmaceutical company licenced to produce and research it. They have gone on to make medicines from this research which are very limited in their application to illnesses that have been traditionally treated by cannabis. But for Governments it is an acceptable starting place.

I can’t even count how many times I have been told “I would love to work in the legal cannabis industry” usually followed by “when it happens”.
