5 Things to Know About Hemp-CBD In Pet Products

When it comes to CBD the research is limited, but a small clinical trial at Colorado State University found that CBD oil reduced seizures in epileptic dogs.

Given that we’ve all been staying home lately, it seemed like a good time to talk about our four-legged friends and CBD. In fact, if I think about it, I first saw hemp-derived CBD (Hemp CBD) “in the wild” at my local pet store here in Seattle. Now CBD is so ubiquitous that I hardly notice it sitting on the counter when I pick up dog treats.

CBD Extraction Methods – Are They Competing or Completing One Another?

Whichever way you’re looking at CBD – as a scientist, buyer or wannabe cultivator – you’ll want to know more about its extraction process.

CBD extraction is one of the critical manufacturing stages that will decide the quality of the end product.

The first condition for a high-grade CBD is, obviously, a healthy and clean plant. But even the purest bud can be ruined or contaminated with poor extraction.

That’s why it is crucial to learn more about the techniques which are used behind the label.

The trouble is that most online sources hail to a single extraction method while biasedly criticizing the others. And the truth is, as always, somewhere in the middle.

Online Marijuana Orders in Key Canadian Province Surge and Appear to Be Sustainable

In recent weeks, the number of orders made through the sole online marketplace in Canada's most populous province Ontario has seen a significant and apparently sustainable increase. BNN Bloomberg, citing data obtained from the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), said that recent daily sales volumes have been significantly (and it appears, steadily and reliably) higher than those of only a month ago.

In early March, prior to the first significant wave of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus cases in North America, the OCS was recording total daily orders of around 2,000. In mid-March that suddenly spiked to over 6,000 as the first measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus were announced. It then settled down into the 5,000 range.

Ontario online pot purchases jump 600% amid COVID-19 pandemic, data shows

Cannabis purchases rose as much as 600 per cent since the beginning of March in Canada's biggest market thanks to stockpiling by consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic - and demand may be sticking around.

Sales data provided by the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) over the past six weeks - the same period that COVID-19 spread across the country - show legal pot appears to be a more "habitual" purchase than a one-time novelty, according to Cheri Mara chief commercial officer at the provincial retailer.

While it may be too early to really gauge how COVID-19 will impact legal cannabis sales over the long term, the OCS data provide a highly precise glimpse at how people are consuming cannabis during the pandemic.

Cannabis Beverages Are Finally Finding Their Way Into Consumers Hands Across Canada

Cannabis 2.0 represents a major opportunity in Canada and refers to the sale of cannabis infused products (edibles and drinkables), cannabis concentrates, salves, tinctures, and more.

Demand for these types of cannabis products has been steadily increasing and this is a trend that we expect to become more significant on a going forward basis. A few years ago, we noticed a substantial increase in the number of Canadian companies that were focused on producing cannabis. When it comes to cannabis 2.0, there has been a much smaller increase in the number of companies focused on the vertical and we find this to be significant.

Industrial hemp products exploding

As CBD markets continue to expand, farmers, researchers and businesses are looking at other industrial hemp plants — cannabinoids.

Last year, during their first year of production, 90% of Kansas’ more than 200 industrial hemp farmers grew CBD hemp. The other 10% focused on grain and fiber varieties. By trying to grow CBD, these farmers were opting for a higher-yield hemp crop.
