Today, we have highlighted seven Canadian Licensed Producers (LP) that have recorded transformational changes since the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada. We believe that some of the companies that were highlighted will survive the current market environment, while others will fail.

A new report from the Cannabis Council of Canada, which represents some of the country’s largest licensed producers, including Canopy Growth, Tilray, and Cronos Group, has graded the government’s performance over the first two years of legalization with a ‘C’ average.

We live in a world of synthetics. Most of our clothing is no longer cotton, but a mix of plastics. Much of our food is made of chemicals that can barely be pronounced. A quick search of social media will reveal some common complaints, including that shipping one-gram orders of cannabis in thick plastic containers might not be the best approach.

Marijuana should be one of fastest-growing industries in North America this decade. There are currently tens of billions of dollars in cannabis sales conducted annually in the black market. If these sales can gradually be moved to legal channels via legalization, large-scale players should see plenty of profit potential.

However, our neighbor to north has completely face-planted in its attempt to be a global marijuana leader.

The timeline of cannabis in America is certainly a tumultuous one. From being spiritually and ritualistically used by Native Americans, to being vilified and criminalized by early 1900’s government officials leading to a 75 year prohibition, to an explosive “war on drugs” that had a choke hold on American culture for over two decades, marijuana and its users have been on a seriously wild ride.

Now, as of 2020, marijuana is fully legal in 11 states and medically legal and decriminalized in another 12. We are finally seeing the progress that the cannabis industry deserves.

This widespread legalization and decriminalization has opened the doors to a sonic boom in cannabis business and innovation.
