Covid-19 Is ChangIng The Way People Think About Cannabis

As a rabbi who works in the cannabis industry, I’m considered safe. Neighbors, friends, even fellow clergy approach me with questions and requests: “How do I join the program?” “Does cannabis help with [fill-in-the-blank]?” “Do you have any samples?” The questions vary, but the conversations usually end the same way:

“Rabbi, please keep this between us.”

“Of course,” I respond, “Your secret is safe with me!”

But inside, I know that keeping quiet about cannabis is ultimately dangerous. Secrecy perpetuates the stigma and shame that have for too long accompanied cannabis in American culture. But in the Age of COVID-19, secrecy may no longer be necessary.

Coronavirus, Counterfeits & Cannabis: Protecting CBD Brands During a Pandemic

2020 will always be remembered as the year of coronavirus. In the retail marketplace, people were driven away from physical retail stores and became increasingly reliant on remote shopping. Also, many nervous consumers dealing with pandemic-induced stress and sleeping disorders have been embracing the relatively new marketplace of cannabidiol (CBD) products.

Hastings County has joined with Lennox and Addington counties to pressure Health Canada for stronger rules governing cannabis grow operations.
The wardens of the two counties, Warden Rick Phillips and Warden Marg Ibester have signed a joint letter to the federal and provincial governments calling for tighter controls over cannabis operations.
Warden Rick Phillips announced Thursday that there will be a chance to explain the concerns when officials from Hastings County, Quinte West and Belleville meet next week with officials of Health Canada.
The letters to provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark and Minister of Health Canada Patty Hajdu emphasize the importance of municipal rules being followed.

Low energy prices, COVID crisis leave Alberta with $24.2B deficit

The double blow of collapsing oil prices and the COVID-19 crisis have pushed Alberta into a historic deficit of $24.2 billion - more than triple what the United Conservative government projected in its February budget.

“We are continuing to deal with an incredible amount of pandemic uncertainty and economic uncertainty,” said Finance Minister Travis Toews, who delivered his first-quarter economic update Thursday.

“There will be some very difficult days ahead and the road to recovery will be slow.”

Toews reeled off a litany of gloom. Government debt is expected to hit $100 billion by the end of the fiscal year next spring. Overall government revenue is anticipated to drop by $11.5 billion - nearly one-quarter.
