Cannabis black market still thriving 18 months after legalization

The nondescript storefront in the 1100-block of Kingsway has paper covering all of its windows except for a neon “open” sign that is still illuminated just before 11 p.m. on a Sunday.

The yellow awning overhead suggests the building houses an auto repair shop.

But just inside the front door is another sign — King Canna.

It is one of several illegal cannabis stores still operating in Vancouver more than 18 months after marijuana was legalized in Canada. And even though provincial regulators seized products at King Canna on May 27, it remained open for business this week.

The stores aren’t the only sign that black market cannabis is still a hot commodity in B.C.

4 Things You Need To Know Before Visiting A Marijuana Dispensary

To ensure you have the best experience during your first dispensary trip, make sure you understand this short list of things a person needs to know before visiting.

People have a tendency to get a bit excited when the concept of legal weed comes alive in their state. Hey, we can’t say that we blame them. It’s not every day that a plant still considered as dangerous as heroin and LSD in the eyes of the federal government gets the green light to be sold in a retail environment similar to beer. It’s a big deal, we don’t care who you are, especially considering the checkered, eight-decades long history of cannabis prohibition in the United States.

Toys "R" Us wins case against B.C. pot dispensary with similar branding

A Vancouver cannabis dispensary is going to need a new name and logo after losing a legal battle with retailer Toys "R" Us (Canada) Ltd.

A federal judge ruled Herbs "R" Us Wellness Society has used Toys R Us's registered trademark in a way that damages the goodwill attached to it.

Toys "R" Us argued that Herbs "R" Us's green logo with a cannabis leaf in the middle of the 'r' uses a similar font and arrangement of letters as the toy store.

Judge Nicholas McHaffie ruled Herbs "R" Us must destroy any goods, packages, labels and advertising material in its possession that bear the similar logo.

He ordered the dispensary to pay to Toys "R" Us $15,000 damages and $15,000 for the costs of its court application.

Can These Two Marijuana Stocks Make a Big Comeback?

Although many leading marijuana stocks have come back in big numbers, not all who play are winners.
