Ontario Cannabis Stores Are Reducing Their Prices To Compete With Illegal Pot Shops

It may no longer be expensive to go the legal route. Ontario Cannabis Store (OSC) has finally decided to reduce the price of 50 different marijuana products. The retail company said during a press conference on Friday, January 3, 2020, that it now has a gram of weed available for $5.

The OSC is selling their “Original Stash” strand for this price. “A medium THC potency Indica that delivers a fruity, earthy profile. Naturally, sun-grown in hybrid greenhouses,” a description of the product reads.

Edibles, vapes and other cannabis products go on sale in Ontario

The latest generation of cannabis products will be available for legal sale in Ontario starting Monday.

The Ontario Cannabis Store is releasing 59 new products, including edibles, beverages, lotions and concentrates.

The products will be available on the shelves of physical retail stores starting on Monday and will go on sale online on Jan. 16.

But the OCS, Ontario’s pot distributor, warns that supplies are tight and some of the products could sell out quickly.

It says it will work to replenish supplies quickly and hopes to roll out more products in the coming months.

Prices for legally sold edibles will range from $7 to $14, beverages are set to cost between $4 and $10, and vapes will be priced anywhere from $25 to $125.

Cannabis 2.0 Has Arrived In Canada, But It Will Be a While Before Investors See Results

Edible and ingestible cannabis products became legal in Canada as of Oct. 17, 2019, and they hit the shelves of pot shops in December. Often referred to as "cannabis 2.0" products, they're a new segment of the industry that should provide Canadian cannabis companies with a big boost in sales as consumers gain access to a variety of new products.

However, investors expecting to see pot stocks soar might have to be a bit more patient, because it could be a while before companies get an uptick from the new product sales.

Legal sales of cannabis edibles may not cut into black market, experts warn

The arrival of legal cannabis edibles, vapes and other products in Ontario won't necessarily meet the government's stated goal of cutting into the black market, according to industry observers.

The Ontario Cannabis Store, the province's pot distributor, has announced that a raft of new products is slated to start appearing in brick-and-mortar retailers on Monday and be available for online purchase 10 days later.

But those keeping an eye on Canada's burgeoning cannabis industry said a combination of federal health regulations and Ontario's own track record around product prices may fail to make the legal wares as enticing as alternatives still readily available through illicit channels.

Vapes, edibles, tea among Cannabis 2.0 products to hit Ontario shelves next week

Ontario's cannabis distributor says dozens of new marijuana products will be available in retail shops starting Monday but supplies will be limited.

The Ontario Cannabis Store unveiled 59 new items Friday including a variety of vapes, edibles and a tea.

The products will be available in the province's legal cannabis retail stores starting next week and on the OCS website on Jan. 16.

The distributor estimates that products will be in short supply until March as manufacturers ramp up production to meet demand.

The number of products will grow to 100 in the coming months as they receive regulatory approval.

The OCS says the new selection will help it combat black market sales across the province.

3 Marijuana Stocks to Avoid Like the Plague in 2020

There's no doubt that the marijuana industry has a bright future. We know this because tens of billions of dollars in annual sales are being conducted in the black market each year. As countries/states continue to legalize cannabis, legal-channel sales have an opportunity to soar. This is why varied Wall Street estimates have called for between $50 billion and $200 billion in annual sales by 2030, up from $10.9 billion worldwide in 2018.

Edmonton cannabis retailers waiting to place orders for edibles

The second crop of legalized cannabis products including edibles like gummies and beverages should finally appear on Edmonton store shelves in mid-January, according to the provincial cannabis regulator.

“It’s legalization all over again — just in a different way,” said Norm Hollingsworth, owner of Mind-Full, The Cannabis Store in Edmonton.

He said he anticipates some customers will line up to try new products and some — especially cannabis-infused beverages — should attract a whole new demographic.

“It’ll bring new people in,” he said.

While the products became legal in Canada Oct. 17, Health Canada did not permit provinces to legally order edibles, extracts and topicals from federally licensed producers until Dec. 16, 2019.

More cannabis edibles expected in NSLC stores on Friday

More than a week after cannabis products became available for purchase across Canada, Nova Scotia cannabis retailers are still completely sold out, but expect a restock soon.

Edible cannabis products arrived in a dozen NSLC locations across the province on Dec. 23 and had completely sold out by Christmas Eve, but stores should be receiving more products Friday.

"By Friday all of our cannabis stores will have a second delivery of soft chews and chocolate available to our customers," said NSLC Cannabis spokeswoman Beverly Ware. "It is a limited delivery and that's expected to be the case for a while."

Nova Scotia became one of the first provinces to offer the products, which became legal for stores to order on Dec. 17.
