Small changes in Canadian market share are creating major ripples across Canadian licensed producers

looking at a laptop in frustration

During the last year, we have consistently covered how research analysts at broker-dealers have been lowering price targets and ratings on Canadian Licensed Producers (LPs). (article originally appeared on Technical420)

These changes have been primarily related to lowering sales expectations, shirking profit margins, and rising net losses. In the near future, we do not expect any changes to the current trend in Canada as analysts have lowered sales forecasts by hundreds of millions of dollars for Canadian cannabis producers.

Better buy: Aurora Cannabis vs. Canopy Growth

checking stock prices on mobile device

Two of investors' all-time favorite cannabis companies released quarterly results last week. Canada-based Aurora Cannabis (NASDAQ:ACB) and Canopy Growth (NASDAQ:CGC) have made investors rich in the past. Both had an early mover advantage in the Canadian medical cannabis market. However, the last couple of years have been a roller-coaster ride. Besides some of their own mistakes, external headwinds like regulatory challenges in Canada delayed the opening of legal stores, which slowed down growth for these cannabis specialists.

Bushfire A Test Of Hemp Building Blocks

hemp blocks

A bushfire has impacted an alternative building materials manufacturer in Western Australia producing hemp blocks – but there has been a positive side.

A couple of weeks ago we reported Western Australian company Hemp Squared was awarded a $100,000 grant from the WA Government to expand its hemp block manufacturing facilities in Bridgetown, which is approximately 270 kilometres south of Perth.

The blocks Hemp Squared produces are made with hempcrete, a mix of the woody core of hemp (known as hurd), lime and water. Far from being a new building material, hempcrete has been used in various ways for thousands of years. Among its attributes is longevity – for example, a form of hempcrete has preserved caves in India for 1,500 years.

cannabis

Cannabis stocks received a boost yesterday after positive earnings from Canopy Growth (TSX:WEED)(NASDAQ:CGC) stock, which jumped over 10%.

What happened?

Cannabis users just want one kind of flower for Valentine's Day

Chocolates, roses and oysters aren't the ultimate aphrodisiacs after all, poll finds

Who wants candy and flowers for Valentine’s Day? Possibly a lot of people, even if those go-to gifts aren’t the most imaginative choices.

Cannabis fans, on the other hand, would be happy to skip those traditional symbols of romance and affection. Their message to friends, crushes and partners: nothing says “I heart you” more than weed.

According to a new study from MariMed and the Harris Poll, 63% of cannafans would rather receive weed than boxes of chocolate or floral arrangements for the upcoming holiday.

UK hemp co-op honored as refugee sanctuary

vegetables

A hemp farm is making positive headlines in the UK for providing food and produce, as well as sanctuary, to refugees in need.

A hemp farm in the United Kingdom is being honored as a sanctuary for refugees for its program to help immigrants seeking a better life. Hempen, a co-operative community focused on the benefits of hemp, was recognized as a Garden of Sanctuary by City of Sanctuary, a group working to create welcoming spaces for refugees in UK towns and cities.

Hempen’s community outreach project Growing Solidarity hosts weekly events on Tuesdays that give refugees the opportunity to be in nature and meet new friends. Participants are also taught to grow their own food, which they can do either on the farm or in their own gardens at home.
