Colorado: Debate At Capitol Surrounds Marijuana Home Delivery Bill

There is a lot of debate going on at Colorado’s capitol over whether marijuana businesses should be allowed to do deliveries of pot to people’s homes.

Under a proposed bill, dispensaries could deliver marijuana to one’s front door with proof of identification. Delivery exemptions include areas near schools, playgrounds, day care centers, public spaces, dorm rooms, and hotels, among others.

Colorado Cannabis Club Measure Clears Early Hurdle

Colorado is moving ahead with a first-in-the-nation attempt to allow marijuana clubs.

But the measure that passed a Republican state Senate committee Wednesday evening doesn’t go as far as some marijuana activists hoped.

The bill would allow on-site marijuana consumption at private clubs in willing jurisdictions. And those clubs may allow indoor cannabis consumption, despite health concerns about indoor smoking.

Cortez Masto, US Senators co-sign letter asking Sessions to back off recreational marijuana

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev. was one of 11 U.S. senators to co-sign a letter Thursday asking the Department of Justice to uphold the guidance on state marijuana laws that has been in place since 2013.

The letter is addressed to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who stated this week that he is "definitely not a fan of expanded use of marijuana." He added that states can pass laws but consuming and distributing marijuana remained a federal violation.

Only one Republican senator signed the follow-up letter, which is signed by lawmakers from all eight states that have so far legalized recreational marijuana, including Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. The District of Columbia also has legalized weed.

Trudeau says he won't decriminalize illicit drugs beyond marijuana

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is rejecting recommendations from British Columbia’s top health officials to widen the scope of his government’s decriminalization agenda beyond marijuana to help stem the country’s growing opioid crisis.

Mr. Trudeau will meet Friday with health experts in Vancouver to discuss Canada’s response to the rising toll of overdose deaths, the latest in a series of meetings where he has engaged with British Columbians on the front lines of the deadly opioid battle.

California's Looking for New Tax Revenue? Weed 'em and Reap

THE STONERS HAVE spoken: Recreational marijuana is now legal in eight states and Washington, DC. Thanks to the passage of Proposition 64, California is one of them, making it the country’s largest cannabis market—the state will start issuing sales licenses by January 1, 2018. Now, as long as the Trump administration doesn’t confiscate our stash, regulators, lawyers, and scientists have some big hazy questions to navigate, from how to keep digital tabs on up to 25,000 licensed growers to how to evaluate THC-related DUIs.

Sessions reassures senators: No pot crackdown imminent

The Trump administration is causing serious paranoia among marijuana advocates with its hints of a federal crackdown on recreational use. But Attorney General Jeff Sessions has privately reassured some Republican senators that he won't deviate from an Obama-era policy of allowing states to implement their own marijuana laws.

Sessions has rattled both libertarians and liberals in ordering a review of the hands-off pot policy under President Barack Obama. But Sessions provided some private assurances to senators before he was confirmed that he was not considering a major shift in enforcement, despite his opposition to the use of marijuana.

Israeli Cabinet Set to Vote Sunday to Decriminalize Marijuana Use

The cabinet is expected to vote Sunday to decriminalize the use of marijuana in Israel.

According to the proposal formulated by the Public Security and Justice ministries, any first-time offender caught using marijuana in public would receive a fine rather than face criminal action.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked called the change a welcome one. “This is a milestone so thousands of ordinary people will no longer be considered criminals,” she said.

The proposal was based on the conclusions of a committee headed by Public Security Ministry Director General Rotem Peleg, with the recommendations accepted by her Minister Gilad Erdan.

Colorado pot club measure clears 1st hurdle

Colorado is moving ahead with a first-in-the-nation attempt to allow marijuana clubs.

But the measure that passed a Republican state Senate committee Wednesday evening doesn’t go as far as some marijuana activists hoped.

The bill would allow on-site marijuana consumption at private clubs in willing jurisdictions. And those clubs may allow indoor pot smoking, despite health concerns about indoor smoking.

But the bill is far from allowing a statewide network of pot clubs. For one, it would allow any jurisdiction to ban them, same as they can currently prohibit retail pot sales.

Also, the bill does not permit pot clubs to serve alcohol nor food.
