Plymouth MP says cannabis 'should never be legal' following Westminster debate

A PLYMOUTH Tory MP says cannabis will never be made legal under his watch.

This comes as a significant debate was held at Westminster Hall earlier this week detailing the positives and negatives of the drug's potential legalisation.

Oliver Colvile, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, was hoping to speak at the debate but maintains his views "are against recreational cannabis".

However Mr Colvile, who has questioned in the past whether marijuana should be available on the NHS to ease the pain of those suffering from multiple sclerosis, says there is still a case for its medical use.

He said: "I'm very sympathetic to people with neurological issues and I think they should have access to it.

Nanaimo RCMP crackdown on pot shops: justice minister unaware

Canada's new justice minister has questions about the recent Nanaimo RCMP crackdown on pot shops, after 10 shops received letters from police, asking them to cease sales within seven days or risk criminal charges.

Jody Wilson-Raybould was asked if the RCMP's move to stop marijuana dispensaries ran counter with the government's direction on pot. One of Justin Trudeau's campaign promises was to legalize pot.

"We were very clear in our platform and certainly we will be moving forward with this. I will be having discussion with my colleague [Public Safety] Minister Goodale on this matter," Wilson-Raybould told CBC's Early Edition this morning.

Medical marijuana users rally support to change laws they're breaking

HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) – As the state’s medical marijuana fight stalls in the statehouse, activists haven’t given up pushing for public support.

One of those demonstrating Saturday in York County was more recognizable than most: Chuck Homan was arrested on marijuana charges last year.

“I just don’t know what else to do,” he said Saturday.

He says he uses it to treat manic depression; last month, a York County judge said that’s okay and found him not guilty.

But it’s “not a real comfortable position to be in,” he said with a laugh. “I still live in fear.”

He hasn’t stopped using pot, which means he could be arrested again. But he still petitioned the streets of Hanover over the week, rallying support for medicinal cannabis.

Idaho Medical Marijuana Campaign Releases New Video

I have a special place in my heart for marijuana reform activists in Idaho. One side of my family (maternal) is from Idaho, and I have hundreds of relatives that live there. I don’t visit very often. It’s not because I don’t like the view. Idaho is a very beautiful state. And it’s not because I don’t want to see my family, because I love them all very much. It’s because Idaho is a very, very scary place to be when you are a marijuana consumer. The laws there are harsh, and many law enforcement officials in Idaho absolutely love to enforce marijuana prohibition.

A Survey of Federal And States' Responses to Marijuana Legalization and Taxation

Marijuana, both medical and recreational, has been a constant feature of legislative and legal controversy over the past few years. More than 20 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medicinal usage, and four states—Colorado, Washington, Alaska and Oregon—now regulate sales for recreational purposes. All the while, these states are in major conflict with federal law enforcement. Understanding the states’ tax regimes and regulatory structures is vital for companies involved in the marijuana trade and the companies with which they associate.

Medical marijuana initiative won't need hearing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

With Attorney General Pam Bondi declining to launch a challenge, the Florida Supreme Court on Friday called off a hearing scheduled for next month on a proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize medical marijuana.

Justices still need to sign off on the wording of the ballot initiative before it could go to voters in November 2016. But without opposition to the wording, backers of the amendment appear likely to clear a key hurdle in the initiative process.
