For the second year in a row, federal officials are seeking to increase the supply of cannabis the government makes available for research protocols.

DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart filed paperwork today announcing that the agency is seeking to increase its marijuana production quota for the year 2015 by nearly three-fold.

The public has kept a watchful eye on the marijuana crime bill circulating in Alaska’s Legislature, but regulators and industry supporters say another piece of legislation in the works is far more important to the creation of a regulated marijuana industry.

Currently in the House Judiciary Committee, House Bill 123 would create a Marijuana Control Board tasked with crafting regulations and ensuring that marijuana businesses work within those laws.

The bill also contains an essential aspect of regulating the burgeoning industry: money.

As the Senate takes up the latest attempt to decriminalize marijuana in New Hampshire, proponents brought in a new ally to lend a voice to their cause: the head of a national coalition of law enforcement officials advocating for drug policy reform.

WICHITA, Kansas – Voters in Wichita went to the polls on Tuesday and approved easing penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana. The final results came in at 9:15 p.m.

The proposed ordinance does not legalize marijuana. It makes first-time possession a criminal infraction with a $50 fine. Under state law, it is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and a year in jail.

Voters want to send the Legislature a message.

A new poll released this week by Qunnipiac University shows strong support among Pennsylvania voters for marijuana reform. The data also highlights a huge disconnect between state politicians and the people they represent.

According to the poll an astounding 88 percent of Pa. voters favor medical marijuana. 

A majority, 51 percent, support full legalization for adults.

Iowans suffering from cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder and many other ailments rallied at the Iowa Capitol on Tuesday in support of medical marijuana as a crucial vote nears in the Iowa Senate.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Supporters laid out language Monday for broad marijuana legalization in Ohio and began collecting signatures for a 2016 ballot campaign.

A spokesman for the Cleveland-based group Ohioans to End Prohibition said the petition effort began at the Opening Day baseball game in Cincinnati.

Jason Wagner said his group’s proposed amendment would provide more cannabis access than a competing proposal by another group, Responsible Ohio. The broader Cannabis Control Amendment would repeal Responsible Ohio’s proposal should the latter make the ballot and pass before next year.
