Analysis: Cannabinoids not linked to 'serious cardiovascular effects'

“The objective of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular toxicity associated with medical use of cannabinoids,” write the authors, who note that “several systematic reviews (SRs) have summarized the potential effectiveness of medical cannabinoids, but it is unclear to what extent safety-related outcomes were incorporated.”

Measures in place to prevent abuse of medical cannabis program, Health Canada says

Health Canada says a "range of measures" are in place to combat abuse of its medical cannabis growing regulations, which have recently come under fire from the mayor of Leamington, Ont.

In a statement on Wednesday, the agency also said it is "committed to working with all stakeholders to address issues of concern with its programs."

Mayor Hilda MacDonald is pushing the federal government to strengthen the rules around medical cannabis production, which she said is more loosely regulated than regular commercial operations and tied to a growing problem of illegal cannabis cultivation in the municipality.

Are Marijuana Hangovers Real?

Weed hangovers are a mystery. Unlike alcohol hangovers, which happen to even the most resilient drinkers, when weed hangovers happen there’s never much of an explanation. Maybe you smoked more than you’ve ever smoked or maybe you consumed weed in a brand new way. It could never happen to you or it could happen often.

Weed hangovers encompass a range of effects that include brain fog, headaches, fatigue and feeling like you’re still high hours later. While they’re not as uncomfortable as an alcohol hangover, they can still be pretty limiting, starting from the moment you smoke until hours after.

Medical Marijuana A Potential Chronic Pruritus Treatment

An interesting case study out of John Hopkins suggests medical marijuana may provide rapid relief from chronic itching for some.

An itch can be annoying, but usually relieved with a quick scratch. Some people aren’t so lucky. While the term “pruritus” just means itching, chronic pruritus  is a condition where itching lasts for more than 6 weeks. It can have any of a number of causes and is often treated with various topical and systemic therapies – including steroids.

But sometimes these don’t work, leaving patients in an incredibly uncomfortable condition that has a major impact on the quality of their lives.

A recent case study by Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers provides some evidence to suggest medical marijuana may provide rapid relief for some patients.

QUT To Research Medical Cannabis For Kids With Advanced Cancer

Australia’s Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has received almost $700,000 to investigate the effectiveness, safe dosage and side-effects associated with THC and CBD.

Around 770 children aged up to 14 years are diagnosed with cancer each in Australia, and sadly approximately 100 children under the age of 15 years die from it annually.

It’s hoped medicinal cannabis can play a role in alleviating children’s suffering in the final stages of their illness.
