Drake invests in Toronto-based cannabis company Bullrider

Drake

Months after the end of his partnership with Canopy Growth Corp., Drake is getting back in the Cannabis game.

The rapper has invested in Toronto-based Cannabis company Bullrider, which is co-owned by his longtime friend and producer Noah “40” Shebib.

Bullrider did not reveal the size of Drake’s investment, but said he will act as a partner and strategic advisor.

“I’ve always viewed 40 as the expert when it comes to cannabis,” Drake said in a release.

“I’m very excited to invest, partner, and contribute to setting a new standard for a premium cannabis experience.”

40 credits the brand’s namesake strain, Afghani Bullrider, as a “life-changing product” that has helped him manage his multiple sclerosis symptoms.

Cannabis store openings in Canada only slightly affected the number of users

marijuana leaf

Despite Canada approaching its third anniversary of cannabis legalization, some municipalities still ban licensed shops. Other countries talking about legalizing cannabis also seem inclined toward minimizing legal access. But my research suggests those policies are probably counterproductive.

Canada legalized recreational cannabis on Oct. 17, 2018. After initial product shortages eased in spring 2019, store openings and retail sales soared. Monthly sales hit $339 million in July 2021 and the national store total now exceeds 2,600.

User numbers have also grown. In 2018, 14 per cent of the population aged 15 and up admitted to using cannabis. That reached 20 per cent in 2020, equivalent to 6.2 million users.

The Top 5 Cannamoms To Follow

Cannabis legalization is quickly spreading across the globe, most recently in the United States. And while the cannabis industry creates new opportunities like holistic care and jobs, it’s also creating impact for one of the largest communities in the world — mothers.

Women today who’ve given birth or have become primary caregivers have been trading wine for weed, and it’s catching on fast. A recent study found that out of 855 women who’ve tried THC or CBD to reduce anxiety and pain rated positive benefits were rated up to 91 percent. Yet even with ongoing research and positive testimonials, mothers who’ve never tried cannabis before are afraid of giving it a try at all.

Belleville, Ont. police looking for suspects who stole weed plants

marijuana plant

On Saturday at 2:38 p.m., officers with the Belleville Police Service attended a home on Golfdale Road in regards to a theft. The homeowner advised that sometime over the noon hour, two unknown suspects stole two marijuana plants from the side of the house.

The suspects left in a vehicle.

Police are reviewing the home owner’s video to identify the suspects.

Wherever one lives in Canada, stealing cannabis plants happens at all times of the year, but there seems to be more complaints of this thievery around traditional harvest season.

Just last month in Chatham, Ont., a sticky-fingered man was charged after his successful bid to steal some marijuana plants from a homeowner’s backyard.

How this family cannabis brand went from legacy to legal

man and woman

Before Fritz’s Cannabis Company launched on the legal market last month, it had operated as a grey market cannabis brand since 2015.

Appearing at pop-up cannabis events and developing a reputation for tasty and potent edibles, Fritz’s built a loyal following. But that wasn’t enough to capture the interest of the half dozen or so licensed producers that met with Ari Cohen and Tabitha Fritz, the husband and wife duo behind the company, as they navigated going legal.

Senior driver faces charges after RCMP traffic stop leads to big seizure of cannabis edibles

edibles

A 68-year-old man from Twillingate, Nfld., is facing charges after Nova Scotia RCMP officers seized a “significant quantity of cannabis edibles” along with a shipment of illegal tobacco during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

The unnamed man’s vehicle, heading east along Highway 105, was spotted swinging between the shoulder and the demarcated lines by an RCMP officer on patrol, who subsequently pulled over the suspect in Wagmatcook, N.S.

Although the man did not appear to intoxicated, the officer opted to search the vehicle, which yielded a substantial haul of illicit products. According to an RCMP press release, the seizure included:

Dreams of Pot Tourism in Canada Dashed by Tough Rules

marijuana leaf

The Ontario government’s idea appears straightforward: Encourage investors to buy rich farmland and grow sun-drenched cannabis plants full of the compounds that get you high, treat ailments, and pack an aromatic punch. Then let them open their gates, offering tourists an experience akin to boutique wineries.

Entrepreneurs jumping on the opportunity are finding it’s not so simple.

Legislation that took effect in 2019 allowing direct sales from farms is restrictive and unwieldy, and such projects are further complicated by the myriad rules governing the cannabis industry in Canada at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
