Marijuana stocks remain under considerable pressure, as a range of calamities and fears that the global legal marijuana market won’t be as large as originally claimed weigh on their value.

These growing concerns have done little to curb the rash of impending initial public offerings (IPOs) for the legal cannabis industry, which is being touted as a superior alternative to pharmaceuticals, liquor, and tobacco.

Across the country, Canadians aged 18 or 19 and older — depending on the province — are permitted to have up to 30 grams of cannabis in public and share it with others. You can grow up to four cannabis plants per residence (no, not per person) for personal use. In stores, you can purchase dried cannabis, oils, capsules, and sprays. While you’re permitted to make edibles at home, selling edibles is currently prohibited — at least until October 17, 2019 (products will become available for sale by mid-December).

B.C. cannabis producer Agrima Botanicals Corp. has had its licences revoked by Health Canada, months after the company disclosed the regulator's finding that "unauthorized activities" with pot took place at the firm.

Agrima is now listed on Health Canada's website of licensed producers with the status "revoked," after having its licences suspended last fall.

Agrima's parent company Ascent Industries Corp. said in November that the regulator had asserted that "unauthorized activities" involving cannabis occurred at the company during a period of time when it was privately held, but it was appealing its suspension.

It's an Ontario-first, and it's happening in Kitchener. 

The Ontario Cannabis Festival will take over Bingemans on September 7. 

Co-founder Tony Millar says the grassroots festival is made by cannabis lovers, for cannabis lovers - and will have something for everyone. 

"We'll have ongoing classes throughout the day. These classes range from how to roll a joint, to how to grow your own flower. So a lot of workshops and a lot of education. People can also learn how to infuse cannabis butter and extract cannabis into oil."

The legalization of cannabis and the ongoing Chinese ban on Canadian canola is sparking a boom of interest in hemp among Prairie farmers, but some experienced producers are warning of "unrealistic expectations."

According to Statistics Canada, the number of hemp acres planted by farmers nationwide is expected to double this year, from 41,200 in 2018 to 82,500 in 2019. While Health Canada — which licenses farmers to grow industrial hemp — will not release its 2019 figures until this fall, the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance industry group said it has been told the number of licence applications has more than doubled this year and the majority of new applicants are first-time hemp growers.

Almost half of Britons support the legalization of cannabis, according to a survey commissioned by a group associated with the ruling Conservative Party.

Alberta is placing an unspecified amount of CannTrust products on hold as a precautionary measure, officials said, pending an investigation by Health Canada into whether cannabis from unlicensed facilities is safe for consumption.

The move by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) comes after Ontario's cannabis distributor pulled CannTrust products from its site.

CannTrust Holdings Danish partner Stenocare says it also has quarantined medical pot products linked to illegal cultivation at the Canadian cannabis company's Ontario greenhouse.

One of the major events on the horizon for the marijuana industry is that before the end of the year, we’re going to see a whole new set of marijuana products be made available to the Canadian public: namely, edibles. While Canada legalized marijuana products federally last October, edibles are still technically illegal (although they aren’t exactly hard to find on the grey and black markets). But this coming December could be another huge run for marijuana stocks.

The big day, for 2019 at least, is about five months away for Canadian marijuana stocks. After officially legalizing recreational marijuana on Oct. 17, 2018, Canada's regulatory agency Health Canada expects derivative products to first make their way onto dispensary-store shelves by mid-December. Derivatives are, for example, non-dried-flower products, such as vapes, edibles, topicals, concentrates, and nonalcoholic infused beverages.
