THC BioMed Intl Ltd. The debate on a motion proposing easier access for opioid alternatives in the city’s Downtown Eastside is expected to begin again Wednesday, when Vancouver city council meets to discuss policy and strategic priorities.

Submitted by Coun. Rebecca Bligh in late May, the motion titled “Cannabis as an Alternative to Opiates and More Dangerous Drugs on the Downtown Eastside” proposes amending an almost four-year-old exclusion zone keeping medical marijuana from being sold in one of the city’s most vulnerable communities.

“What I’m asking is well-considered exceptions to that rule, and that city staff come back and make recommendations to council,” Bligh told CTV News Vancouver in an interview Tuesday.

Green Growth Brands Inc. has signed a deal to open more than 70 new CBD stores at Brookfield Properties' shopping centres throughout the United States.

The Ohio-based cannabis company says these stores will sell CBD-infused personal care products under its existing Seventh Sense banner and under a new brand called Green Lily.

The chief executive of Brookfield Properties' retail group, Sandeep Mathrani, says it is the company's job to bring in retail offerings that consumers desire, and this includes Green Growth's CBD products.

Green Growth currently has seven shops within Brookfield Properties' portfolio.

Cannabidiol or CBD is a non-intoxicating compound which can be derived from cannabis or hemp and has been touted for its health benefits.

When he decided to take up farming part-time six years ago, Roy Renneberg (Welder ’90) did a very Alberta thing and planted hay.

Still employed in the construction industry, the native of Cudworth, Sask. grew up on a farm and hay seemed like a comfortable choice. But when Ottawa announced plans to legalize cannabis and update rules around industrial hemp, its non-stoner sister plant, a seed of inspiration was planted.

Hemp was an unknown, but after doing some research Renneberg was intrigued with the prospect of a crop that could produce revenue from every part of the plant – seeds, flowers, leaves and stalks.

“I thought, this could get very interesting and that’s where we went with it,” he says.

When edible cannabis products are legalized by the federal government this October, the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) will be ready.

The government-run online-only pot shop issued a call for new cannabis products on Monday, including edibles, beverages, topicals and extracts.

The OCS, which also acts as the sole distributor of legal marijuana to licensed retailers, says that while it will take some time for producers to get the necessary approvals from Health Canada it’s looking to “kick-start” the rollout.

“This product call marks an important milestone in securing a broad variety of cannabis products that meet the preferences of Ontario consumers,” said Patrick Ford, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Cannabis Store.

You can do it, and besides, smoke on the balcony of your room at Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa hotel complex is only for adults, whose leadership has just announced that now they are allowed to consume cannabis products.

At the moment it is the only such hotel in the province, at least officially, which allows its customers to smoke pot on-site.

Located in Haliburton, about three hours away from Toronto, a luxury hotel with 25 rooms located directly on the shore of lake Eagle.

Canada “blew it” on cannabis legalization and is rapidly losing ground to the U.S. as a result, according to the founder of one of the top investment banks to the industry.

A lack of policy innovation, a messy patchwork of provincial regulations and severe restrictions on marketing and branding have left Canadian pot companies eating the Americans’ dust, according to Neil Selfe, founder and chief executive officer of Infor Financial Group Inc.

Competition in the retail cannabis market is about to pick up in the Swan City. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis has released more licenses to sell cannabis across the province, including two in Grande Prairie, which went the Canna Cabana and Peaceleaf. That now makes three licenses granted in the city, as Lucky Leaf had been the lone licensee since the legalization of recreational marijuana use back in October.

The Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island says visitors hoping to smoke cannabis on the Island this summer may have a tough time finding a place to do it legally. 

As it stands, it's against the law on P.E.I. to smoke pot in public. It's left up to the owners of tourist accommodations to decide whether to allow guests to light up in their private rooms or in designated areas outdoors on their properties. 

CEO Kevin Mouflier said many owners he's heard from have decided not to allow pot to be smoked anywhere. 

"It's back to the [fact] that a lot of travellers do not like smoking period," said Mouflier. "Whether it be cigarette smoke or anything, they want to have that clean feeling of no smoke in the rooms or public areas."

Canada’s legalization of pot edibles later this year is facing an even more shambolic start than the dried flower market, which is still struggling to meet demand, according to industry players.

“At least that time we knew what the permissible product types were going to be and were already making them in the medical context,” said cannabis lawyer Trina Fraser, a partner at Brazeau Seller Law in Ottawa.

Canada will add edibles, extracts and topicals to the list of legal cannabis products no later than Oct. 17. Many analysts agree these products will generate better demand and margins than dried flower. But the federal government has not yet issued regulations for the new formats, making it difficult for producers to prepare lest they unknowingly violate some rule.
