These are the proposed regulations for cannabis edibles and creams

Health Canada has released draft regulations for cannabis edibles and extracts, which include strict limits on dosage and ingredients.

For edibles, Health Canada is proposing plain child-resistant packaging, restricting the ingredients that can be used and limiting the edible to 10 milligrams of THC per package, which is largely considered the typical amount for a single dose. Additionally, regular food and edible cannabis products must not be produced in the same facility.

Manitoba seizing pot from Winnipeg-based Bonify

Manitoba regulators have seized all cannabis products provided by a Winnipeg-based company that were shipped to licenced retail stores.

The Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation say the sale of all cannabis products produced by Bonify are suspended over quality-control issues.

Premier Brian Pallister says he believes illegal cannabis entered the legal distribution system.

He says Health Canada was notified more than a week ago, but the province was only told Tuesday, and heard from the company, not the federal government.

Pallister says it's unacceptable that his government was not notified earlier, and customers need to know that what they are buying is approved and licenced.

Many more people in Montreal may receive marijuana-smoking bans from their landlords in the next month

When marijuana was officially legalized in Canada on October 17th, 2018, an entire new legal code also came into effect. Under the Cannabis Act, landlords had 90 days to send tenants notice of a marijuana-smoking ban. Just weeks after legalization, we already noticed some frustrated Montrealers being notified of smoking-bans by their condo management.

Many Montrealers scratched their heads and wondered, "if I own my condo, how is it possible that my building can tell me where I can and can't smoke weed?"

From cannabis candy to vape pens: Health Canada to release regulations on new wave of pot products

But how about candies called “chewables”? Or tarts, tablets and mints?

They may all be similar, but the formats and names could be key to what is acceptable to federal regulators.

What confections will be allowed is one of the biggest question marks as Canada awaits regulations from Health Canada on cannabis “edibles” and concentrated products, says Chuck Rifici, an Ottawa cannabis entrepreneur.

Rifici’s Auxly Cannabis Group, like others in the industry, is preparing to produce a range of products while waiting to see what will be allowed.

Labatt to partner with Tilray to tap cannabis drink market

Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer, and Canadian pot producer Tilray Inc. are partnering in a US$100 million joint venture to research cannabis-infused non-alcoholic drinks for the Canadian market, the companies said Wednesday.

The alliance, the latest in a string of deals by global alcohol and tobacco giants in Canada’s cannabis sector, comes amid booming demand for cannabis and a long-term decline in alcohol consumption and smoking.

AB InBev’s Labatt Breweries of Canada, which makes such brands as Blue, 50, Alexander Keith’s, Kokanee and Budweiser, will work with Tilray’s Canadian cannabis subsidiary, High Park Co., which develops and sells cannabis products in Canada, the companies said in a statement.

The government of Canada is now officially warning Canadians to buy legal marijuana with cash to protect their personal information

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada released a "guidance document" today explaining why he feels it best that Canadians use cash when purchasing marijuana, even at legal and licensed dispensaries. The guideline also advises Canadians to provide as little personal information as possible when making purchases of marijuana.

Marijuana became legal in Canada this past October, and while most Canadians were more than pleased with the choice by the federal government, there have been a handful of hiccups.

Canadian cannabis beer startup Province Brands targets Caribbean resorts

Province Brands — which is developing 0% ABV beers infused with the plant’s psychoactive compound, THC — has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Caribbean distribution of its products with Ayre Resorts, a new collection of five-star properties opening its first resort in Antigua in 2021.

The startup, which is currently unable to sell the THC beers in Canada while the country’s cannabis legislation comes into force, also makes Cambridge Bay Imperial Pilsner; an alcoholic hemp-based beer.

Canadian cannabis spot price launched with futures trading eyed

Cannabis moved one step closer to being a tradable commodity like wheat or oil on Tuesday after a U.S.-based group launched the first benchmark price to track Canadian wholesale cannabis prices.

Jonathan Rubin, chief executive officer of New Leaf Data Services LLC, the parent company of Cannabis Benchmarks which already releases similar U.S. pot prices, said demand to develop a benchmark Canadian cannabis price grew steadily after Canada became the first developed country in the world to legalize recreational use of the drug.

"Even though the Canadian market isn’t as big as the U.S. market, we saw the Canadian market as incredibly important," Rubin said in a phone interview with BNN Bloomberg.
